Social Emotional Learning Through The Arts

How We Feel at The New Children’s Museum celebrates the creativity, courage, and emotional depth of San Diego’s youth.

How We Feel: Social Emotional Learning Through the Arts, highlights the power of art to help young people explore and express their emotions. Featuring artwork created by students from Title 1 schools across San Diego, this exhibition is the result of a meaningful collaboration between The New Children’s Museum, San Diego Unified School District, classroom educators, and social emotional learning (SEL) experts.

Through a specially designed curriculum that integrates SEL with visual arts, students reflected on identity, empathy, and emotional well-being. The result is an honest, inspiring collection of youth artwork that offers a glimpse into how the next generation is making sense of themselves and their world.

Student Artwork On Display

The youth artwork included in this exhibition offers us a window into how students made sense of their feelings and their world during the 2024-2025 school year.
