Pow, Slam, Kaboom! Superhero Summer is back at The New Children’s Museum starting July 1! From pop-up activities and fun adventure prompts to our newest installation No Rules…Except, you won’t want to miss out on all the super opportunities for play and creativity.
Join us in the Innovators LAB for several different activities to develop your super character. From July 1 – August 4, you can channel your inner superhero and create your own emblem. Explore the printing process with our Teaching Artists and create a unique Superhero Sticker to take home. Sign-up at the LAB on a first come-first served basis.
You can also learn about the comic-design process at our custom illustration station. Draw a fantastical hero, ally or villain and give your character a fun name! Littles can channel their inner super character with our Superhero Sketches!
And we’re calling all kid-detectives to help us hunt down Monsters and Aliens this summer! Your job: locate 10 monsters and aliens that are hiding in our building and help us from the Comic-Con takeover. Practice your look-and-find skills and save the day!

The Museum will be closed July 16 – 24 for a private event during Comic Con. As a non-profit, we depend on this annual rental to help fund our interactive programs, immersive installations and more! We apologize for any inconvenience.
Although we may be closed, there are tons of fun things to do downtown! If you’re up for the Comic Con adventure… check out the official Comic Con website or the unofficial San Diego Comic Con blog to see all that is going on.
Many restaurants and hotels will be hosting special events this week. For example, back for its fourth year Ghostbusters Mass Hysteria is an all day event at The Werewolf restaurant downtown. All ages are welcome until 9 p.m. Get ready for some supernatural fun and awesome giveaways! The creators from IDW Comics will also be on hand to talk about the ongoing Ghostbuster Comic Book. The event is free, but head there early because space is limited. Be sure to check out all the ways to experience the Comic Con magic this week!
We reopen July 25 to continue our Superhero Summer! Plan to join us to make DIY Superhero Gear in the Innovators LAB. All superheroes need special seeing powers, so come by to make your own binoculars, goggles and other spyware using recycled materials and your super creative skills!

This year’s summer museum exchange allows our members to use their membership cards to explore the following museums for free during our closure July 16 – 24: San Diego Model Railroad Museum, the San Diego Natural History Museum, the USS Midway, and the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum.
Members must present their The New Children’s Museum membership card at the time of entry. A maximum of 4 people per membership will be granted free admission per visit. Films and other special exhibits/programming are not included and can be added for an additional cost.
