Wind Vessel makes wind power – a resource we often take for granted – visible. This artwork challenges us to think artistically and scientifically about the potential for wind to produce energy.
- Pedal the bike to power the big fan and create wind inside the “vessel”.
- Pick one fan-generated LED light to look at inside the vessel. Observe how long it takes for the wind to hit the fan and make the light glow.
- Lie down underneath the vessel. What do you see?
Who Made This?
Designer, Artist and Educator Miki Iwasaki has added a new title to his credentials: wind investigator. Recipient of the San Diego Foundation’s Creative Catalyst Fund award, he partnered with our museum to further his work about the ways in which people and their environments can react to or play with each other.
MIki’s curiosity in making and building things eventually led him to pursue a career in architecture, and attend California State Polytechnic University in Pomona California. Miki also studied for a year at the Kyushu Institute of Design in Fukuoka, Japan and received his Masters in Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His architectural experience includes work in New York, Los Angeles, and San Diego firms, and spans a variety of project types including residential, office, restaurant, retail, and gallery work. Throughout his academic and early professional years, Miki remained dedicated to his own art projects and furniture designs. Miki’s interests and skills constantly expand in the field of architecture, art and design as he pushes himself to explore new materials, methods and projects. Miki is currently adjunct faculty at Woodbury University San Diego, School of Architecture.
