We still start every visit with Wobbleland and the Sandbox Gallery, but as she’s grown we’ve had so much fun discovering more of the museum together.

September Member Spotlight: Dalton Rooney

This month our Member Spotlight features Dalton Rooney and his family! His wife, Stacey, is originally from San Diego and Dalton is from the east coast. They met in Brooklyn while working on web projects together at StoryCorps and began collaborating in their free time. Their collaboration eventually led to them founding their design studio, Raygun, in 2011. Fun fact: The Museum’s website was designed by Raygun!

They moved to San Diego in 2013; their journey beginning with an epic 3,300-mile road trip with their two dogs and ending at a bright green house in North Park. They continued to establish their design business and family—their daughter Nico was born in 2015.

What brought you to the museum?

Dalton: Stacey remembered going to the Children’s Museum when she was a kid (before it became The New Children’s Museum), and reached out about working together on a web project just a few months after Nico was born.

How long have you been a member?

D: We’ve had our membership since before Nico could crawl and have been amazed with her engagement with the art and activities. We still start every visit with Wobbleland and the Sandbox Gallery, but as she’s grown we’ve had so much fun discovering more of the museum together. This past weekend we spent a lot of time in the Sketch Aquarium and jumping on the bed in No Rules…Except!

What has been your favorite experience so far?

D: When I asked Nico about her favorite things to do at the Museum, she immediately mentioned the elevator. (Seriously.) But she also loves the watermelon boat, the flight lab, and we always stop to put money in the cash machine. She’s still a bit intimidated by the Wonder Sound but she’s very curious and I know we’re going to be climbing up that rope ladder soon.
