Opening Celebration for Woodswoman: Earthseed
Friday, June 5, 2026 | 6-9pm
Join us for the Opening Celebration for Woodswoman: Earthseed, a new immersive and interactive installation by visionary multidisciplinary artist Saya Woolfalk (she/her) created in partnership with The New Children’s Museum.
As the culminating exhibition of the Museum’s Science Fiction Creates the Future thematic arc, Woodswoman: Earthseed transforms guests into “California butterflies” within a vibrant, oversized world of plant-inspired projections, responsive sound, and imaginative exploration inspired by the Earthseed philosophy of Octavia E. Butler.
Throughout the installation, three giant acorns invite children and families into hands-on activities inspired by California native plants, science, storytelling, movement, and sensory play, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and shared discovery.
The evening will begin with a reception featuring light bites and refreshments, followed by a conversation with Saya Woolfalk and Ayana Jamieson, PhD (she/her), founder of the Octavia E. Butler Legacy Network. Guests will also experience special performances by Monarch School and transcenDANCE woven throughout the installation experience.
Following the short program, guests will be among the first to explore Woodswoman: Earthseed.
Join us as we gather in community to celebrate an evening of art, imagination, and exploration. Guests of all ages are welcome. This event is free to attend, but RSVP is required.
Enjoy $10 parking Monday-Friday from 8:45am- 4:15pm now through May 15!
