Unleash your creativity in “Hammer, String, and Nails”—an exciting workshop where kids ages 11-13 dive into the world of 2D and 3D design! In this 90-minute hands-on experience, participants will use everyday tools like hammers and nails, along with textiles and materials such as yarn, thread, and magazine cutouts, to explore key design elements like color, shape, and line. Under the guidance of teaching artists, they’ll learn basic tool safety and techniques, transforming flat materials into stunning 3D geometric art pieces. It’s a perfect blend of art, design, and innovation—where creativity takes shape in new and unexpected ways! 

Important Details:  

This workshop is 90 minutes. 

Location: This workshop takes place in our brand-new Art Studio inside The New Children’s Museum at 200 W. Island Avenue San Diego, CA 92101. Please plan to arrive 20 minutes early to park and make your way to the Art Studio.  

Drop off: A guardian may drop off the participant at the start of class. For safety purposes, only adults listed during registration with a matching photo ID may pick up participants.  

Parking: Limited parking is available in the Museum garage for $20/car ($10 for NCM Members and EBT/WIC/SNAP cardholders). Nearby public parking lots and metered spaces are also available. ABM Parking at 450 2nd Ave. offers a 2-hour discount with code 8792 (exclusions apply, including Padres games).  

Public Transportation: The Museum is accessible via the MTS Trolley Green Line and MTS Bus.  

Museum Admission: Workshop participants are invited to enjoy same-day access to the Museum at no extra cost. Please note that this benefit applies exclusively to the workshop participant; all additional guests must purchase admission tickets at the Museum Welcome Desk. Participants under the age of 16 must have an accompanied adult to enjoy access to the Museum.
