In this hands-on bookmaking workshop, Girl Scouts create a one-of-a-kind accordion sketchbook using recycled and upcycled materials. Drawing inspiration from NCM’s art installations, participants learn folding techniques, decorate custom covers, and build a portable sketchbook ready for drawings, reflections, and ideas.
Activities include:
- Take inspiration from the work of Museum collaborating artists Panca (she/her) and Wes Bruce (he/him) to discover how artists use sketchbooks to capture imagination and inspiration
- Decorating and personalizing covers with collage and paint markers
- Learning age-appropriate folding methods:
- Zig Zag method (Daisy & Brownie)
- Pocket methods (Junior, Cadet & Senior)
- Adding final touches with ribbons or string closures
- Reflecting and sharing finished books
Scouts leave with a meaningful keepsake that celebrates creative self-expression and sustainability.
