Thank you for your interest in the Seed-to-Tree Workshop organized by The New Children’s Museum! This two-day gathering will explore the legacy and life of award-winning visionary author Octavia E. Butler through an interactive workshop for 25 selected applicants. In addition to learning about Butler, participants will contribute feedback that will inform the Octavia E. Butler: Seeding Futures exhibit at The New Children’s Museum in 2024.

Dates: Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20, 2023
Time: 9:30am-4pm (both days)

  • Day 1 – Bread & Salt – 1955 Julian Avenue, San Diego, CA
  • Day 2 – The New Children’s Museum – 200 W. Island Avenue, San Diego, CA

Breakfast, lunch and a $200 honorarium will be provided to each of the 25 selected workshop participants. Please note, the workshop will prioritize the participation of BIPoC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) youth aged 12-23 years, but all ages 12 years and older are encouraged to apply. This early-stage inclusion of community members reflects Butler’s strong desire to impact marginalized young people, particularly young BIPoC.
