In this engaging workshop, participants will explore the essentials of charcoal drawing while creating dynamic still life compositions. Participants will delve into the versatile world of charcoal, learning techniques such as shading, blending, and adding texture to bring their artwork to life.
The workshop also includes experimenting with various types of charcoal and application methods, as well as practicing foundational skills like sketching and refining drawings. A $10 materials fee is included in the class price.

Important Details:
- This workshop is 90 minutes and offered to youth ages 10-13.
- Location: This workshop takes place in our brand-new Art Studio inside The New Children’s Museum at 200 W. Island Avenue San Diego, CA 92101. Please plan to arrive 20 minutes early to park and make your way to the Art Studio.
- Drop off: A guardian may drop off the participant at the start of class. For safety purposes, only adults listed during registration with a matching photo ID may pick up participants.
- Parking: Limited parking is available in the Museum garage for $20/car ($10 for NCM Members and EBT/WIC/SNAP cardholders). Nearby public parking lots and metered spaces are also available. ABM Parking at 450 2nd Ave. offers a 2-hour discount with code 8792 (exclusions apply, including Padres games).
- Public Transportation: The Museum is accessible via the MTS Trolley Green Line and MTS Bus.
- Museum Admission: Workshop participants are invited to enjoy same-day access to the Museum at no extra cost. Please note that this benefit applies exclusively to the workshop participant; all additional guests must purchase admission tickets at the Museum Welcome Desk. Participants under the age of 16 must have an accompanied adult to enjoy access to the Museum.
