The Museum offers four different styles of tours: think, play, create and innovate! Select which type of tour best suits your classroom goals, student ages and availability.

THINK tour

GRADES 1 AND UP

During this two-hour THINK tour with a Museum Teaching Artist, your group will explore the current array of interactive and creative contemporary art installations. Students will participate in fun, participatory, hands-on experiences that encourage inquiry-based thinking from original artworks. The tour is sure to inspire discussions that can connect to your curricula in visual art, social studies, science and history.

1:7 chaperone to student ratio required. Chaperones will assist the Museum Teaching artist by providing group management and organization.

Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9:30-11:30am or 10am-12pm. Tuesdays are available in the summer season.

PLAY excursion

GRADES PRE-K-5TH

Two-hour self-guided PLAY excursions offer groups the opportunity to explore the Museum’s variety of interactive exhibits at their own pace. School parent chaperones lead small groups of students through the spaces with a Museum-provided map and play-prompt worksheet. These self-guided excursions provide a variety of cognitive and physical activities that build students’ interpersonal skills and creativity.

1:5 chaperone to student ratio required. Exceptions can be made for lower ratios if the chaperones are paid staff members. Chaperones will be tasked with managing small groups of 5 students and will lead them in play throughout the Museum. Chaperones are required to take on the responsibility of facilitating the experience for their child. Museum staff are not assigned to these groups

CREATE exploration

GRADES K AND UP

The two-hour CREATE exploration experience focuses on the artists in your students! Students will discuss and experience the interactive art pieces created by contemporary artists in the current exhibitions, then create a unique artwork with a Museum Teaching Artist. The guided tour and hands-on art making activity builds students’ problem solving and critical thinking skills as they delve into the artistic process.

1:7 chaperone to student ratio required. Chaperones will assist the Museum Teaching artist by providing group management and organization.

INNOVATE Adventure

GRADES 2 AND UP

Starting January 2020. Reserve your space now!

The two-hour INNOVATE adventure focuses on tinkering and innovation! In this guided tour, students will experience the interactive and innovative art spaces in the Museum as well as participate in a hands-on design challenge that promotes skill-building, problem solving and creativity. This tour will be led by one of our experienced Teaching Artists and is inspired by the Museum’s in-house makerspace, Innovators LAB.

1:7 chaperone to student ratio required. Chaperones will provide group management and organization.

Student Fees
THINK and PLAY students: $12
CREATE and INNOVATE students: $15

Chaperone Fees
The Museum requires one chaperone per every seven students on the THINK, CREATE and INNOVATE tours and one chaperone per every five students on the PLAY tour. Complimentary admission is extended to those adults. Groups will be charged $5 for every additional or missing chaperone beyond the required amount for the type of tour selected. Chaperones accompanying students with special needs are not charged.
