Remember leg warmers? Rubik’s cubes? Pacman? How about John Hughes movies, boom boxes and MTV? The music, the fashion and the fads of the 80s were all part of The New Children’s Museum’s annual Studio 200 gala on November 10.  The galleries and studios on all three levels were open for exploration, so guests could indulge their creativity and engage with the Museum the way kids do on a daily basis.  Plus we had some fun 80s-inspired surprises and appearances throughout the night, as well as classic 80s photo ops.

DJ Guests moonwalked and breakdanced to the best of the 80s with DJ Junior the Disco Punk, who has spun at every major venue in San Diego over the past 20 years.

BetaMAXX We were stoked to feature local favorite 80s tribute band BetaMAXX, the ultimate 80s tribute band, who got the crowd on their feet to danceable 80s music.

Arcade Games The Museum’s lower level played homage to the quintessential 80s arcade, with classic games like Pacman and Frogger (no quarters needed!).

Food and Beverage Catering was provided by Feast on This, and there were food stations and multiple bars on all levels, including a Cheers-themed bar on the main level.

Roller Rink Adjacent to the buzzing and ringing of arcade games, Skateworld and the Museum created a mini roller skating rink. Party guests checked out roller skates and strutted their stuff taking a spin around the rink to their favorite 80s tunes.

Photo Booth Guests enjoyed a custom 180-degree photo booth provided by CEG Interactive where they posed for a six-camera array and then shared 3D photos with friends online! Check out the Photo Booth photos provided by CEG Interactive and sponsored by U.S. Bank here. More event photos coming soon!
