Living in Downtown San Diego has many perks: great restaurants and concert halls within walking or short driving distance, cultural and community events every weekend and beautiful weather. However, when families and children move downtown, they are giving up their backyards, front yards and side yards. That’s exactly why it is so critical for the city to have urban outdoor parks and play spaces – to allow kids and adults to enjoy the weather, play and stay active. This encourages physical activity as well as imagination, exploration and discovery. While your high-rise or condo might not grant you the open space you and your kids’ needs, we invite you to make The New Children’s Museum your playground and backyard!

We have three floors of space inside for kids to play, run around and explore, as well as a park with two play areas and a beautiful garden.  Thanks to a generous donation from Wawanesa Insurance, our park’s amenities and equipment were recently renewed, so the playground is ready for you!

And since summer weather is already shining through in April, our Garden workshops have started up again! Every Saturday and Sunday, you can come learn all about California native and drought-resistant plants from our teaching artists. Thanks to continued support from SDG&E, you can also play in our Garden any day you’d like.  If you want to get your hands dirty, you can check out a Garden Kit from our Welcome Desk and explore The Garden at your own leisure.
